This mechanism is one of a very few self-contained mechanisms made of only two moving relative to each other parts. Actually, just two came to mind - “Bolt and Nut” and “Sand Clock”. One was invented in 400 BC, the other in 8-th century. Since those times, seems to me, no more mechanisms in this group were invented. This toy is fun to watch; it has completely mesmerizing and somewhat hypnotic moves. All made of plastic it is very light but has widespread arms allowing it to stay firmly on the table. As any pendulum, this one required to be started by giving initial swing to “Trickler”. Odd number of holes on the Base allow almost automatic re-start of the pendulum when Base rotated clockwise (required some practice to make it automatic).
